Found Things – The Fruit that Time Forgot

February 16, 2016 by Gemma Louise Nesvik

Lost Things Brief

We were given the brief of finding lost things from a specific area and photographing them. My area was near the shops and market so i decided to focus on fruit and vegetables that had been abandoned at the market and were damaged in some form.  When i got the fruit and vegetables i took them back to my room to set up a temporary photography studio. I wanted the lighting to be very natural so i took the photos when then the sun was in a high position during the day so i wouldn’t have to use much artificial light. I decided to give the Photo’s an Andy Warhol feel by having a bright pop background of multicoloured polka dots which would contradict the normal fresh fruit with damaged and rotting fruit.

I primarily took inspiration from pieces such as Andy Warhol

One of Andy Warhol’s pieces.

Andy Warhol uses lots of bright colours and tones  i decided i wanted to use something similar in my photographs of the rotting fruit so i used multi coloured polkadots. the bright colours also made poignant juxtaposition with the rotting fruit.
